So you need some help…
I took a month off, mostly from not paying the hosting fee, but took the time to refocus on myself.
It wasn’t easy, because I still had ideas coming and wanted to be explored.
The hardest part lately for me is being able to obtain clients and also provide content that is useful to those who are struggling these days.
Well, I am here to tell you that you are not alone. I have been working on this blog for about 2 years now. The biggest issue I have found to be the hardest to overcome is just starting itself!
Finding the point to start…
We all know having all of the resources to start is excellent, but not helpful if you are just not sure where to start first. Which is a good place to be. Because it helps you sort out what is not needed and put it into a list of what You think is important. This will help you figure out what is required and get to that point to get started.
The best advice I can give you is to jot down or use a whiteboard to organize your blog, e-commerce store site, or business page. Just like an outline for a blog post, you will be doing the same thing with setting up your website. This time around you will be doing more than just writing, but setting up a domain, website, etc.
To make it easier to get started if you are new to starting a blog for a website or doing a one-page site for a funnel of some kind. The 3 biggest steps to start before doing any webpage or blog are to:
3 Things to do first…
Let’s break these points down a little further. Trying to keep the TL;DR down to a minimum here)))
The biggest thing I can tell you about researching your niche and what you want to write about. This should be no surprise here, but if you are doing what you already know and is passionate about, then this shouldn’t be hard for you. When brainstorming about your niche, you will be able to narrow down what you want to focus on and go from there. Researching your niche by looking for other content about your niche for articles, social media posts, and other bloggers. By having the knowledge of how saturated your niche is you can adjust accordingly within the broader scope of your niche.
Domain names are easy to find, but harder to find one that will work for your niche’s website. The biggest advice I can give on this is to look at several names, you can do a specific name. Although you will find some names to be more expensive for a .com name as compared to a .net name. All of the .co,.biz, and related lower-level domains will be cheaper, but not have the pull of a top-tier level domain. Although there are some instances where the domain seller can bundle some extensions with your domain name for a lower price, usually at a good value! (more on domains in another post)
Hosting, hosting, and hosting. This is where you have your website, blog, or storefront on. Think of it as a building on a street. This is where you store your website, domain information, and other media for your place on the internet. There are several hosting sites and many more that do more specific hosting depending on what you are needing hosting for. Many hosting platforms do offer a way to buy domains and get hosting for a reduced price. Use these if you bootstrapped your site and have limited amounts of money. Remember that this can be temporary until you find a better hosting plan with the services you want or need. Pay attention to the amount for the hosting by looking at the monthly rate versus the annual rate. For annual rates, it is usually in 1, 2, or 3-year formats, but bill in a yearly fashion. So pay attention to this!
- Research your niche– how much content is out, keywords(can be used for the logo, names, and SEO)
- Find a memorable domain name if possible-Don’t break the bank looking for one, use synonyms or related words or combine them!
- Use hosting from the domain provider– This isn’t always the case but it can be an excellent way to get started for cheap while setting up the site and learning the ropes(rather quickly too!)
Still need a push???
If you still need a push or help in starting, send me a message. I am on LinkedIn, Instagram, Whatsapp, and a few others. Hell, my number should be listed on my IG or Facebook page so you can always get a hold of me to talk to you about just starting, doing it all by yourself. Or, bootstrapping what it is usually called.
I like to call it what it is. Doing something only you have the determination to see it through and not pay attention to the negative thoughts and just go out and try. This is what I love to do and help others get over that hump. There is no greater feeling than actually seeing something get accomplished and it went off without a hitch!
Seriously, I see a lot of people wanting to have something pretty much done for you or want a quick way to the end. Well, no matter what you do, you still have to put in the work. I can tell you that is not the way.
Just start no matter where you are or what you are doing. Try and see if it will work or not. I rather hear about you failing after attempting something. Just start, try to go out, and fail to do something. Quit telling yourself “I will do it tomorrow”, or “I’ll do it when I have the time or money”
The problem with this thinking is that you will never get started or attempt to start. By putting off what you can do today for free while watching the world cup on tv. A lot of this can be done on your phone. Only takes an hour to do each task.
Boom! You now have a site, domain, and a place to start working within your niche!
So get out there and start going. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty, or reach out to someone asking for help on something you may not have figured out. Sometimes we all need someone to put it in a different perspective in order to see it clearly.
While the same questions keep being asked, I assure you, but trying it on your own you will have better confidence to oversee it in the future if you have someone else do it for you. There are plenty of forums through Reddit, WordPress.org, and even a Google search that can help you find ways to just start. I am not the only one, but someone who will gladly spread your site around without asking for anything in return. I want to see you succeed, not struggle!
If you feel stuck and need some help and don’t know where to turn. Contact me I will be glad to help you out in any way that I can!
